KatharineI am a Sivananda trained yoga teacher, throughout this site you will be able to discover a bit more about Sivananda Yoga and the various classes that I run in and around Ipswich. There is a contact page so please do get in touch if you can't find what you are looking for or require any further information. I want this site to help you on your yoga journey so let me know any thoughts you may have!

I began practising yoga around 1997 attending various hatha yoga classes. My interest in yoga developed far more seriously during my first trip to India. In 2001 I was in New Delhi for two months doing voluntary work at a couple of different projects. I was staying with a family in Kailash Colony literally just round the corner from the Sivananda Centre. I started attending courses there and throughout those couple of months developed a daily practice. I worked through the Yoga 1 and Yoga 2 courses and continued with the open classes also attending a headstand workshop and an amazing ayurvedic cooking workshop. After the two months in Delhi I was hooked on Sivananda Yoga. I returned to India over Christmas 2003 and spent Christmas at the Sivananda Ashram in Kerala for a yoga 'vacation'. In between trips to India I was practising Sivananda and attending advanced classes at the centre in London.

In 2004 I took the Sivananda Teachers Training Course at the Sivananda Dhanwantari Ashram in South India where I had been the year before and qualified as a Sivananda Yoga Teacher. This earnt me the title of Yoga Siromani meaning Jewel in the Crown of Yoga.

Kamala is the spiritual name I was given during the Teachers Training Course. Kamala is another name for the goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and fortune and a consort of Vishnu the preserver of life.
